Boston FD Switching From Scott to MSA?
#1
Does anybody know if Boston changed from Scott SCBAS's to MSA?

No, we have not. We had some companies field testing MSA's, but we currently are still using Scott. That may change in the future, but it hasn't yet.

Thanks for the info, Skip. Are you guys generally happy with your Scotts?

Generally. We had some problems with shoulder straps twisting on the harness that Scott was initially unresponsive to, but once we began field testing MSA's they dispatched a team to make repairs to every harness in the department. On my truck we carry 7 harnesses, so I'm guessing that saw the gravy train leaving the station & decided to flag it down before it was out of sight.

Skip,

Since I'm way out of the loop, any idea if they addressed the same issue with EMS's Scotts?

That's an excellent question. I'll check with a couple of the field guys on Tuesday & with our Mask Repair Unit on Wednesday & let you know.

Sean...heard Boston signed the contract with MSA, or at least the local dealer is bragging about they did. Any truth?

I will verify, but I believe that that's true.

They will be here in late July or early August. Delay due to funding going over two different fiscal year budgets.

Sean, what kind of training was given on these packs before they went into service?

Every company went through a 2-3 hour class at the Academy that consisted of a film, PowerPoint presentation & a 60-90 minute hands on component. It was pretty thorough.

The Scott pak holds an hour bottle. I believe those bottles/harnesses are remaining in service for the time being. We typically carry 2 hour bottles/harnesses & 6 of the MSA's

How have the MSA's been received so far compared to Scott?  We are in the middle of evaluation phase of our SCBA replacement and I believe it's down to Scott and MSA.  I have experience with Scott and would go to them in a heartbeat but I'm really curious about MSA.
