Texas Law Enforcement
You have to wonder how many call their going to get about the taxi cabs with police lights on the roof. I see there is an Emergency 911 & Sheriff in "ghost" reflective lettering on the back, but that doesn't cover the morons during daylight hours <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

Austin did the same thing. I'm working on getting some pics of them.

The other unit is one of San Antonio Police Depts new black & whites.

James, They just "wrapped" over the top of the regular markings on the vehicle and they are just used for public relations stuff, not used on regular patrol (but I'm sure you knew that).

Nahh I didn't, I had never heard of this type of plan. I get through San Antonio about once a month, and I admit I rarely see any patrol vehicles out on the freeways other than I-35. I was rather shocked last week when I managed to get shots of a VIA Transit car out at the truck stops on the east side of town. It's a good idea, and I like the concept, but still they gotta drive from place to place <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/popcorn.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Popcorn' /> Heck I'd use them for DUI enforcement. Imagine how screwed up the drunks would be if they got loaded handcuffed into the back of a "cab" <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />

Austin PD also has one of their black and whites wrapped like this, it is currently sitting at the south substation.

In the DFW area, Fort Worth and Irving did the same thing. Its all part of the Labor Day DWI Enforcement campaign.

myFOXaustin (AUSTIN) - Austin Police are part of a new state wide program to raise awareness on drinking and driving and that includes two unusual looking cop cars.

They're half patrol cars, half cab cars. The front half is black and white, the rear is yellow.

You'll do a double take if you haven't seen these yet. APD Commander, Donald Baker, says, "that is exactly the point right there." Austin police patrol vehicles combined with yellow cabs. Baker says, "it also starts a conversation."
