How it looked in the '30's

How it looked in the '60's (I drove the two on the left - their last open-cabs, & their last gasoline-powered rigs. They would have only one more Pontiac - a '70. Sorry for the Scotch tape in the middle.)

How it looks in 2010. The only station of twelve with poles, and yes, the flag is backwards, but they couldn't figure out how to put Ladder 10 on the other side of Quint 5 <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

The position of the US Flag, between two fire trucks as shown, can be determined as the flag is displayed for over the middle of the street. It should be suspended vertically with the union to the north in an east and west street or to the east in a north and south street.

Not sure how this fits this fire house or the direction the apparatus shown are heading.

Too bad you were not able to include a shot of their 1920 something antique on the left end with a big picture window for viewing -- unless they changed things since the last time I was by there in 2007. A few years ago I got to meet several of the career daytimers thanks to my aunt who worked in the city hall part of that building -- all very nice people. Black Mountain is a very nice town of about 7,000 surrounded by the mile high peaks and I think those in the background are what my family there call "the seven sisters" with one possibly being Mount Mitchell, highest point in the eastern USA.
