Taking the HUGE leap!
#1
Well, the wife and I are taking that huge step out into the world of fire truck owners. My Friend EMS12 and I had stopped at Kratzerville a couple weeks ago to photograph the new engine they bought. The Hahn which it is replacing was sitting outside awaiting sale. The informed me they had 1 offer for it, and that buyer wanted to send it overseas. I just couldn't see this happen to that beautiful rig. This rig originally served Jefferson, near Philadelphia, I am sure Bruce can fill in a lot of details on this engine. It is a 1981 Hahn, HCP15, 1500/500.

I hope some of you can help me with the ins and outs of owning a rig. My biggest dilema is going to be finding a place to store it. I have always loved the bulldogs, but I love all the customs, and the chance to own a piece of history with this Hahn, I couldn't turn this down. Was such a sad end to such a good brand, I am proud to keep alive a beautiful example of their work.

Darin, Congrats brother!!!! Welcome to the world of antique fire truck owners! And another one in the Central (a little north) PA. If you have any questions PM, email or give me a call. Also I don't know if you got a tag for it yet or not but it takes a while. Love to see it at a local parade before the season ends. Maybe the muster in Frackville Sunday October 3rd?

Condin and Scully are a good insurance company. I used them for my insurance. Cheap and good coverage.

Did an internet search and found nothing on this company. I got a quote from Haggerty and AAA.

Fantastic news Darin! I Have been contemplating making an offer on the 1978 Monroeton / Falls Twsp Hahn 1250/500 as well. That would put two privte Hahn Custom owners within 45 miles of each other. Good luck with yours and if I do get mine..lets hit pump primers in da 'burg together!

The company is Condon and Skelly. http://www.condonskelly.com/ I have had my truck insured with them for the last 15 years. I pay $50.00 a year for full coverage.

Hope you get it, and enjoy it. I am looking forward to getting this engine to take in the local parades. I admittedly am scared about repairs and issues, as I don't have a lot of spare time and very little mechanical knowledge.

Tim,

I was there about two months ago, and they said to make an offer, or they would just drive it down to the scrapyard like they did thier last Hahn.

Great looking rig! As far as being a mechanic, I'm not all that gifted either. However, like me, I'm sure you'll find plenty of mechanically inclined people that will think it's great you have a fire engine and will be willing to help you with it. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

I wish. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bitch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> The Great State of Nerth Kakalacky department if insurance doesn't allow such thangs; in State companies only (or at least the one's who "contribute".) <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/machinegun.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Machinegun' /> And, for an added bonus, my Antique tag really isn't. It's a common weighted tag, just like any regular truck. Costs me just shy of $300 every year for the priviledge of operating on these roaads just for the tag ang reg fee. Insurance can be commercial policy only, no outside vendors or antique/vintage companies at all. I'm very happy for those that can take advantage of the specialty insurance companies; just wish they could find their way here. Cheers, TJ. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Banghead' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/stirpot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Stirpot' />

I also would like to ask, if anyone out there has photos of my Hahn, from Jefferson especially, posed or in action, I would love copies, I would like to put together a little display board for it.
