For those who want to skip the Chiefs' Show/Parade on the weekend of June 23-24, you may want to take in the Quonset Point, RI Airshow. It looks like a heck of a lineup including the Blue Angels, a F/A-18 Super Hornet demo, a Saturday-only F-22 Raptor flying demo and a 'Combined Arms' presentation (think: Blowin' Sh*t Up Real Good!) I believe both days.

Doug those were from the very end of the Massport Pier where the Black Falcon Terminal is located in Southie. I have to share that I was eventually kicked out by a friendly uniformed officer (I still have no idea who he worked for) who said that no one was allowed to take pictures there. It MAY have had something to do with a cruise ship of some kind that was about to leave the terminal and all kinds of law enforcement water-borne vessels being on hand. He asked who I was and who I worked for and I explained I was no one and worked for no one and that I was just trying out a new lens (which I was). He was very nice and wasn't a hard *** as some can be. I moved on and everyone was happy. Of course I already had the photos I wanted :-) PS - There were a ton of people fishing out there so apparently its public for fishing but not for photos. Of course, I was taking pics of the law enforcement vessels too so maybe they are the ones that asked them to shoo me away. Whateva.

These are a couple of pics from Lukla airstrip in Nepal. Lukla is one of the main starting points to Mt. Everest. I took these in 2001. Definitely a very interesting place to land. The runway is on the side of a mountain and the strip is not flat. One end of the runway is a drop off down a cliff face, the other end is the side of a mountain, there are no go arounds here.... These pics are good clear weather conditions, flying through the mountains and clouds makes it even more interesting...
Here are some pics of the runway from standing on the top of the strip. The 1st shows the dropoff of the strip and the last show the end of the runway with the mountain face.
The last pics I have from Lukla, Nepal. These show some of the weather conditions these guys fly into, compare this pic to the earlier one, you can't see the mountains through these clouds. Hope you enjoy them.
A few shots I took the other day when the Good Year Blimp paid a visit to Long Islands Republic Airport in Farmingdale. They still anchor the ship by it's nose, and I was surprised to see it took off like a plane. A short ride down the runway and then nosed up like a prop job. Interesting to say the least

I shot this today at the former Griffiss AFB in Rome NY. The base is now being used as the Oneida County Airport. There is also a repair facility for aircraft, it looks like this one is in for a new paint job, at the very least.
