Phoenix Fire Scenes 11/14-11/22/14 - Guest - 11-23-2014

I was in Phoenix for a week of training and was able to take in a few fires here and there.  I was surprised by how many working fires are transmitted across the valley every day but the distance between them is quite far.  I went to about a dozen fires but many "working fires" were quickly reduced to hold an Engine & Truck.  When I first arrived I toured the Hall of Flame Fire Museum and when I was leaving a working fire was called on the opposite side of Phoenix at 51st Street and Buckeye Road.  It was upgraded to a 1st Alarm with Hazardous Situation which called for quite a large response. With traffic I ended up being pretty late to the show but got a few photos anyway.

Ladder 24 & Engine 24 were first due and had the alpha side, Engine & Rescue 34 were second due.  It looked like they had some good smoke early on.

Phoenix is the only department I know of that staffs a PIO 24/7 out of a firehouse.  PI3 is housed at Station 61 and staffed by a Public Information Captain.  PI3 gets toned on just about anything decent but many of the calls are handled in the office via email and phone calls.  I rode along with PI3 for a shift and we only rolled out on about half the calls toned.  The city is simply too big to make it on scene of calls only lasting 20-30 minutes.

This fire was at 9705 W Riverside Avenue and a good 25 minute drive from my hotel.  Just before I arrived command special called two additional Engine's over the working fire assignment.

A garage fire extended into the home and two cars in the driveway.

Besides this fire all the others were after dark with nothing to really see.  This one came in as a reported house fire at 13th Avenue and Peoria Road, Engine 33 went offensive and declared a working fire.  It was another 20 minute drive and just about done when I arrived.  It looked like they held a porch fire with tank water and not much extension.

Nice work.  Noticed you took the warm weather jobs and left the hard work to the misses.  She did a fine job in LIttleton
